I am going plant based. Here’s why it doesn’t matter.

  1. I am three for three. I spent most of the past three months taking care of my three little ones. Good times, bad times, we had them all. I am much better off for it and wouldn’t give up this quality family time for anything in the world.   But I also didn’t get to spend much time on my own fitness. I made sure to exercise three times per week, because any less than that and I’d feel lousy, act stupid, and my wife and kids would put me out.   Bottom line, I am not in as good shape as I’d like. Ripe and ready for a change.   Yesterday I watched “The Game Changers” on Netflix. A documentary about plant based athletes. It presents a strong argument for Veganism. Of course it’s one side of the story, and there is a whole other perspective with plenty of good arguments there as well. All of them make valid points.   But I decided to give a plant based diet a real sustained effort. I’ve tried before, but this time I feel ready. Not saying I will never eat meat in my life, in fact I’m sure I will. But this is right for me now.   One thing that I think gives plant eaters an advantage is that they have no choice but to be strict about getting the right amounts of micro and macronutrients or risk getting sick.   If you are eating plant based, you absolutely need to be counting your protein, carbohydrates and fat or you will wind up being skewed toward a high carb diet by default. Not ideal. Vitamin and mineral levels need to be tracked as well or you can risk serious deficiencies.   I like to use the app “My Fitness Pal” because it makes it easy for me to set goals and to know where I’m holding. It’s also super user friendly and easy to enter foods into. The free version is perfect. All clients at CrossFit Jerusalem receive instruction on how to use this wonderful tool.   The great news is that whatever your goals are, you will get there faster by logging your intake. It really doesn’t matter if you are eating Paleo, Vegan, or anything else, as long as you are getting the right amounts of good quality foods.   Not sure how much Protein, Carbohydrate and Fat are right for you and your goals?   Start with booking a No Sweat Intro with me so we can talk a bit. Will Lifting Weights Make You Bulky?

When I was experiencing the most severe pain of my back injury, the worst part wasn’t the physical pain. It was the humiliation of not being able to instruct my body to perform on demand. I literally couldn’t put my shoes on in the morning, but I insisted on doing it...

How should I lose weight? (Tell me exactly what to do Josh!)

Is Weightlifting Safe for my Joints?

There are few activities you can do which will provide more of an immediate benefit to your day to day life more than lifting weights.

Training with free weights (not machines) will make it easier to pick up your kids, bring in the groceries, make more kids, carry more groceries, and a host of other functional activities.

Alas, we have all heard the horror stories, or experienced them ourselves, of people getting hurt in the gym.

So can you do upper body work without developing shoulder, wrist and elbow soreness? Can you deadlift without risking a blown out back? And can you squat and lunge without ruining your knees?

I am going plant based. Here’s why it doesn’t matter.

The great news is that whatever your goals are, you will get there faster by logging your intake. It really doesn’t matter if you are eating Paleo, Vegan, or anything else, as long as you are getting the right amounts of good quality foods.

Strength Building Dinner Option: Quick Tangy Beef Sauce.

Strength Building Dinner Option: Quick Tangy Beef Sauce. If there is one thing that drives me bananas, it is people who dump sugar into everything they cook “so that the kids will eat it”. Kids like real food, they don’t need to be bribed to eat when they are hungry....
