You practice portion control, but your waistline stays the same!

 

So you workout more and start skipping meals. Some initial weight loss but 2 weeks later you are stuck again and your energy is at an all time low.

 

Sound familiar?

 

The good news is that you can easily lose belly fat while enjoying the foods you love, all while reaping the benefits of peak strength and energy. (And you don’t have to spend your life in the gym either).

 

The problem is that you are ignoring the “Insulin Hypothesis”, a groundbreaking theory that has been commanding increasing respect in the medical literature, despite decades of a well financed campaign by the Cereal, Sugar and Alcohol Industries to bury that which we all know to be true, that carbs make us fat.

 

Here’s how it works: You consume refined carbohydrate. This could be fruit juice, bread, chips, whatever. Your blood sugar levels go up, and insulin is released to bring the blood sugar back down.

 

Insulin is a storage hormone, it tells the cells to store energy as fat. It is also a super hormone, which means it directly influences other powerful hormones in the body. So balanced insulin levels will help you sleep better, build more muscle, have better sex, and be in a generally better mood (not necessarily in that order).

Consuming refined carbohydrates even once per day can be enough to make fat loss impossible! Conversely, restricting carbohydrate intake is a sure fire path to success, ask anyone who has ever naturally lost weight long term.

 

If you didn’t have insulin you wouldn’t stay alive for long. Conversely, too much insulin is responsible for most of the chronic disease of our time.

 

The bottom line for weight loss? Control your insulin levels by not eating sugars or refined carbohydrates. Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, they are God’s food! Get enough lean protein, preferably at every meal! And don’t be afraid of healthy fats like olive oil and avocado.

 

Lastly, get good and sweaty while moving your joints through a full range of motion on the regular (that’s a quote from Greg Glassman).

 

This will keep you healthy and strong for the rest of your long and pleasant life.
